1949-2025

Sam Casoria (75 ) of Gibsons. Our beloved brother passed away from stroke related causes on April 3, 2025, at Sechelt Hospital. He was born in 1949 in Naples, Italy, the family then moved to Ontario for a year before moving to Vancouver. Sam didn’t really start appreciating life until he moved to Gibsons, BC, where the slower pace of life and the nearby mountains made him feel more relaxed. He worked at MG Engineering in Gibsons from 2007 to 2014 If anything defined Sam it was his love of hiking and mountain climbing. He climbed Mt Aconcagua, the highest point in the Andes Mountains and the Western Hemisphere at 22,831 feet. Also climbed Mt McKinley (Denali) in 1993 and managed First Basecamp on Mt Everest in 2007.

He loved climbing Mt Elphinstone in Gibsons and never failed to greet fellow climbers and offer advice if needed. He also had an avid interest in astronomy and was a member of the Sunshine Coast astronomy club. He is survived by his 2 brothers, Mario and Tony Casoria and his 4 nephews Matthew, David, Neil and Kyle. Mention should be made of his lovely companion Mary Anne. We miss you Sam, never stop climbing and reaching for the stars.
